CAPPO is pleased to announce that the nomination deadline for the Craig A. Rader Volunteer of the Year Award has been extended until 5:00 PM on Monday, November 3, 2025.
Mr. Rader was a great leader who continues to inspire volunteerism and was regarded as a great friend. Mr. Rader is often characterized by his selfless devotion to CAPPO, his ability to mobilize and motivate others, and his approachable, empathetic nature. Craig not only advocated for positive change but was also on the front lines, working alongside volunteers to achieve a shared vision. Through his charismatic, compassionate, and humble demeanor, he was able to foster a sense of camaraderie, trust, and respect among CAPPO members and collegial partners.
Whether it was through his exceptional leadership, unwavering support, or countless hours of volunteer work, Craig consistently demonstrated a remarkable level of dedication and compassion to and for the public procurement industry. Mr. Rader’s tireless efforts have made a significant impact on the public sector procurement community, and his willingness to go above and beyond in serving others, whether it was supporting CAPPO or other collegial sister organizations, was truly inspiring.
Craig’s leadership style was participatory and inclusive, ensuring that every voice was heard and valued. He led by example, demonstrating a strong work ethic, integrity, and a genuine concern for the well-being of others. Craig’s friendly, open demeanor invited people into a shared mission, creating a nurturing environment where volunteerism thrives. He was not merely viewed as a leader but also as a companion, mentor, and confidante. Whether it's through his exceptional leadership, unwavering support, or countless hours of volunteer work, Craig consistently demonstrated a remarkable level of dedication and compassion, through his actions and interactions. Craig nurtured a procurement community bound by a shared purpose, creating a lasting legacy of volunteerism and friendship long after his tenure.
NOMINATIONS ELIGIBILITY
Nominations can be made by any active CAPPO member in good standing. Self-nominations will not be accepted. To be considered, applicants must satisfy at least one of the stipulated award criteria. It is not mandatory for nominees to fulfill every criterion.

CRITERIA FOR THE AWARD
The following is the list of criteria for the award. When nominating, please specify the particular criterion used for the basis of the nomination.
Selfless Service:
- Demonstrated commitment to serving others without expectation of reward or recognition.
- Volunteered a significant amount of time and effort to CAPPO.
Commitment and Consistency:
- Contributed a large number of hours or days volunteered over the award period.
- Volunteers consistently showed up, regardless of the frequency.
Friendship and Mentorship:
- Provided mentorship, guidance, and support to individuals, fostering personal and collective growth.
- Is approachable, empathetic, and built lasting relationships based on trust and respect.
Leadership and Initiative:
- Stepped up to lead projects or groups without being asked.
- Engaged in efforts to enhance self-reliance and empowerment within CAPPO chapters.
- Fostered a sense of communal responsibility and collaborative effort within CAPPO chapters.
Ambassadorship:
- Actively promoted the organization’s mission, events, or programs.
- Represented the organization at external events, conferences, or media appearances.Innovative
Problem-Solving:
- Demonstrated creative and effective problem-solving skills.
- Encouraged innovative thinking and solutions to address organizational challenges.
Passion and Dedication:
- Demonstrated passion for the organization’s mission and values.
- Took on tasks beyond the expected and went the extra mile, without seeking recognition.
FREQUENCY OF AWARD
The Craig A. Rader Award is awarded annually to 1 active regular CAPPO member in good standing at the annual CAPPO conference. Nominations for the Craig A. Rader Award are due by August 31 each year.
EVALUATION AND RECOMMENDATION
Nominations will be reviewed by an award committee appointed by the current CAPPO President. The committee will evaluate all nominations submitted by the deadline and select the award recipient based on the nominee who most closely aligns with the greatest number of criteria for the award. The committee may reach out during the evaluation to nominees and or nominators to get clarification on the nomination. A recommendation of the selected award recipient will be presented to the CAPPO Board of Directors for approval, and presented to the award recipient at the annual CAPPO conference.
