The NIGP Certification Commission is pleased to announce that the California Association of Public Procurement Officials (CAPPO) has earned the Commission’s Authorized Education Provider designation for a three-year period effective July 24, 2023. The designation’s brand is licensed by the Commission to indicate that CAPPO’s educational programs of courses, workshops, webinars, and conferences meet the standards defined by the Commission for granting Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) required for NIGP-CPP recertification. The Commission’s Authorized Education Provider Program was established to achieve three outcomes: - Provide standards on the types of educational activities that align with the Public Procurement Competency Framework and can be recognized for earning CEHs
- Recognize educational providers who meet these standards and can therefore utilize the program brands
- Provide reasonable assurances to a NIGP-CPP certificant that his/her educational activities will result in CEHs for recertification
The NIGP Certification Commission has certified 1,110 public procurement leaders since the program’s inception in August 2020. These leaders are practicing in 45 U.S. states and 5 Canadian provinces. As an Authorized Education Provider, CAPPO has access to the Certification program’s trademarks to promote its educational programs. CAPPO also has access to the CEH trademarks to identify the number of hours earned for each CAPPO educational activity or event that meets the standards. Conversely, the NIGP Certification Commission recognizes CAPPO as an Authorized Education Provider and will cross-promote its educational programs on the NIGP Website. CAPPO’s Education Program and NIGP’s Content Program are the first programs to earn the designation. While education providers are not required to earn the designation to have its educational programs qualify for CEHs, the designation is exclusive to those organizations who demonstrate the rigor of their educational programs through an application and assessment process. CAPPO and NIGP enjoy a strong, collegial partnership. Anchored in a collaborative agreement, The two organizations have agreed to exchange marketing benefits in support of their respective memberships and the procurement industry. Within the evergreen agreement, the two organizations have agreed to co-market their educational programs, co-host webinars, and offer educational sessions at their respective conferences. CAPPO was formed in 1915 as a nonprofit organization dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of professional behavior and ethical conduct in public procurement. As the oldest public procurement association in the United States, CAPPO works to provide tools to buyers in the public sector that will help them develop their professional skills for their benefit and the benefit of their agencies.
