Calling for Nominations - Verne O. Gehringer Award
An Award for Outstanding Contributions to Public Purchasing
In January 1975, the CAPPO Board established the Verne O. Gehringer Award in recognition of his involvement, leadership and participation in promoting better purchasing, and setting an example in his own agency. It was pointed out by the CAPPO Board at the time that his recognition was not only for his service within the Association, but also to recognize his efforts toward obtaining public recognition of CAPPO throughout the State, and most particularly for encouraging qualified purchasing people to seek public procurement positions.
This award is unique in that nominations can be made by individual members or groups of members. The award, if awarded, is to be presented to an individual whose modest, unselfish, sincere and persistent effort for the advancement of public purchasing, and whose able assistance and guidance to the membership in their endeavors eminently qualify her/him for this highest award that CAPPO can make.
CAPPO does not give this award routinely. It has only been awarded 12 times in its history. To ensure that this award maintains the highest standard for which CAPPO gives recognition, the Verne O. Gehringer Award Committee will determine if the Candidate meets the standards and seek approval of CAPPO’s Board.
