In Remembrance of Andrew Reshke, CAPPO President 1967

Andrew P. Reshke (11/9/1930 – 9/23/2021)

Andrew P. Reshke (“Andy”) was born in Oakland California on November 9,
1930 to Andrew J. Reshke and Anne B. Niemczeski. He was followed a year
later by sister Joan Frances Reshke. He attended St. Elizabeth’s High
School in Oakland for one year then finished his high school studies at
St. Joseph’s High School, Alameda in 1949. He was an honor student and
participated in the glee club. Upon graduation, he enrolled at the
University of San Francisco and obtained a degree in Business
Administration in 1953 (and would later receive an MBA from the same).
As the war in Korea was under way, he enrolled in advanced ROTC and
received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army
Transportation Corps. On October 1, 1953 he was called for active duty
and reported to Fort Eustis, Virginia for six
weeks of Transportation Officers’ Basic Course. In July 1954 he received
orders to Inchon, South Korea where he was in command of the fleet of
drivers who provided transportation to the various army units in the
Inchon area. He was released from active duty in mid-1955 and returned
to his home in San Leandro.

In July he was hired by the California Packing Corporation (Del Monte
foods) in San Francisco as an accounting trainee. He later was
transferred to the purchasing department as a buyer. It was there, in
1958, that he met Patricia Frances Egan (“Patty”), taking her on dates
in his new 1958 MGA. They married in 1959 in San Francisco at Holy Name
Catholic Church. Andy and Patty were blessed with four children in the
next five years.

In 1961, he
joined the City of San Leandro as Purchasing Agent and remained until
1968 when he became the Purchasing Agent for the County of Sacramento
until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the California
Association of Public Procurement Officials and served as President in
1967.

Following
retirement, he was invited to apply for a vacant position on the board
of the California Prostate Cancer Coalition, having survived prostate
cancer early in his retirement. During his term, he was instrumental in
achieving the passage of a Senate bill sponsored by Senator Debra Ortiz
to make permanent the continuance of the IMPACT program, which provided
funds for men who were diagnosed with prostate cancer but who had no
insurance or other means of paying for treatment. Andrew was also an
active member of the Sacramento Valley MG Car Club, which he and Patty
enjoyed for many years.

Andy is
preceded in death by Patty, his beloved wife of 59 years, his son, Mark
(Mercedes), and his sonin-law, Mark Uphoff. He is survived by his
children Paul (Martha), Ann, and Lisa (John Rex); his sister Joan Croker
and family; and his ten grandchildren Matthew, Julia, Jillian, Hannah,
Parker, Ryan, Amanda, Jessica, Laura, and Nicholas.

At the Gateway chapter meeting on August 15 at the East Los Angeles Library, Jose Gonzalez presented a tribute followed by a moment of silence in memory of Cynthia Duprey.

Cynthia Ann Duprey
February 29, 1956 - July 18, 2019

I was given the gift of life on February 29th 1956, (Yes a leap year baby, you do the math). I was a lucky woman who led a blessed existence and for this I am grateful. I have a brother Craig and two sisters Lisa and Lori, with whom I shared a great childhood and a special bond. My wonderful husband, Mark came into my life and filled it with nothing short of sheer amazement. When we met, me with my three beautiful children, and Mark with his two awesome sons, we fell completely in love with each other, instantly becoming the Anderson-Duprey Crew. Our children Tom (Debi), Tim (Amy Lee), Nathan, Chelsea and Cassandra (Constance), along with my remarkable grandchildren Harley, Rylee, Miki and Jaxynn have brought me such joy and made me so very proud.

Throughout my life I had many jobs, but I spent the majority of my working years in the Purchasing Department in the city of South Gate where I enjoyed my time and made great friends along the way. These friends, along with my special lifelong friends, friends I've made through school, through camping and other areas of my life, have filled my life with absolute happiness and love.

With the incentive of having a beautiful motor home and traveling the country, I semi-retired three years ago and enjoyed the heck out of life with my Hubby and the boys, Leo & Tiffin, aka our "fur babies".

And now, all too soon, the time has come to return this wonderful gift of life I've been given. The return of the special gift, although so difficult in so many ways, comes with an amazing bonus; A reunion with my parents, Barbara and Kensal, and many other family members and friends I have not seen for a very long time. It also brings me the peace of being in the welcoming arms of my Lord and Savior.

You are all forever with me.
