8. What are the guidlines for posting on CAPPOList?

CAPPOLIST is a forum for CAPPO members to exchange information and conduct frank discussions on various topics and issues without inhibition. However, please keep in mind these rules when posting to the CAPPOLIST:

  • Include a subject header that accurately reflects the message content.
  • Respect your colleagues' time and bandwidth. Don't send "thank you's" and "me too's" to the whole group.
  • To reply to a specific individual, type that individual's email address in your "to" field. When you "reply" to a CAPPOLIST message, your message is delivered to the entire list.
  • Please do not send personal messages to individuals via CAPPOLIST. Again, when you "reply" to a CAPPOLIST message, your message is delivered to the entire list. Enter the individual's email address in your "to" field and hit send.
  • Be clear in your message to reduce the risk of misinterpretation.
  • Please do not use all CAPITAL LETTERS when composing messages - it is considered yelling and many consider it to be rude. Please use lower case letters.
  • Share the wealth. Discussion groups exist to benefit their users. If you've got good information, have just completed a successful project or learned of a great resource, share with your purchasing colleagues.
  • Be ethical. Don't say or do anything you wouldn't in the workplace.
  • Don't send anything you wouldn't want repeated. Although e-mail may be deleted, it is still retained on servers and backups. It could come back to haunt you.
  • Do not attack or criticize individuals, agencies or firms. Please make every effort to be polite and professional. Remember the person behind the computer. A computer doesn't have feelings, but the person on the other end of your message does.
  • Do not post specific information encouraging the selection or rejection of specific suppliers. CAPPOLIST members who wish to engage in discussions regarding the performance of a specific supplier or product should do so within a private email or telephone conversation.
  • CAPPOLIST is a benefit of membership. Therefore we discourage CAPPOLIST members from using the listserv to frequently assist non-members and non-member agencies.
  • Except for someone in your agency or another purchasing colleague who might be able to provide answers or solutions to a particular post, postings made to CAPPOLIST are not to be distributed outside the listserve.
